New Cats... When To Let Them Out For The 1st Time

I have a really silly question!!!

We have recently adopted two gorgeous kittens from our local animal sactuary! They have now been with us for 4 weeks. I have never had cats before... and am worried!! They are clearly showing signs of wanting to be outside (Which I have no problem with)...

So If I let them out... how do I get them back in? How do they know how to get in? Will they definitely return to our house??

I know these seem like daft questions... but our family have grown really attatched to these cute gremlins?

Advice greatly appreciated!!

If your cats go outdoors, make sure you have flea collars/flea drops for them. Otherwise, they will bring fleas into your house. Make sure their shots are always up to date. They can catch a lot of diseases interacting with other animals outdoors or even just eating grass. Worms is a common one. Make sure your neighbors are friendly and there are not predators in the area. In a town near me, some one killed all of their neighbor's cats recently. Also, around here, coyotes will often eat cats that are left outside.
