Using Freecycle to promote business when looking for items!
Usually I try to use Freecycle as much as possible in our local community for items I need. I asked for blank business cards and brochures and I got a potential client out of the deal, who asked what business I was making. He also sent me a referral for Vistaprint to get 150 MORE free business cards! Once I get paid, I shall be using that referral!
You don't have to show off your business link on Freecycle to get curious people. Most of the mom and pop businesses on the Eastern Shore use freecycle as a means to get furniture, get rid of office supplies (I've gotten many printer cartridges this way), computers and more! The list is endless with what is offered on the community!
Use where you shop at to network! You never know who you're going to find!
A lot of people on Freecycle know me as the "Yankee Candle girl" from the outlets near our house, so they're more than willing to pick up any votives I don't want out of a pack. I work there mostly on weekends, but I've gotten quite a few regular customers who are interested in the new business and have offered to try to see if anyone is interested. Several asked for business cards and flyers to pass around this weekend, but I didn't have any to give them.
I'm not trying to solicit at my job (in fact, I suggest against it when your boss is working with you), but there were quite a few Freecycle people who stopped in the store this weekend who know my name and email. I got their emails and just gave them the information to the site when I got home.
I haven't gotten a "client" yet, but knowledge is half the battle. As the boss says, lack of awareness is half the problem. And most didn't even know what a virtual assistant was! So hopefully, they found something out this weekend!
