Forums may contain a lot of information, but I tend to stick to areas I am highly interested in and know a bit about. You can subscribe to certain threads and get an update whenever there is a reply if you are really into the discussion. You could always go back through your old posts to see where you posted to as well.
Usually when I reply though, I have no need to go back unless I am asking a question.
Also, I just found this great post by rafael2420 that has the details to subscribing to threads.

Keeping Track of the threads
that you participated in or asked a question.
It will be much easier if you keep track of all the
discussion threads that you participated in or asked
a question.
Here's how you do it. Go to the Top of this page until you
can go no further - now look down about halfway and
towards the right is a link that says "My Control"
Click on that link and you will be taken to your control
panel. This is the same place where you created your
signature file - but go down the list to where it says "Options"
Select - Email Settings - click on it and put a check mark
on what you want to receive by email notification.
After you complete that process - you will start receiving
emails with this subject:
Topic Subscription Reply Notification ( DreamTeamMoney Forum )
Each email will have up to 10 or 12 threads where you
participated in the discussion.
Why do you want to keep track of the discussions? Just to
know what is going on. If you want to post a reply to the
discussion - you can just click on the link and you will be
taken to DTM and directly into that thread.
