Sometimes you have seen that you click on any URL link and it direct to page which shows message like 404 page not found error or something like that. This signifies the link is broken (not working) and it will not direct you on that page you are searching.

A broken link is usually one that leads to a 404 page not found error. If you like you can fix this by pointing the link to another page that is equally relevant or put in place a 301/302 redirect from your 404 page to a page that is working and of course relevant.
A 301 is a permanent redirect and passes google Page rank.
A 302 is a temporary redirect and passes no google page rank.
