Usually people visit your website, look at a few things surfs around a bit but ends up leaving, the common results are that they will not be coming back any time soon, especially if there are no interesting reasons to come back. Especially since most people behave impulsive and random when surfing on the Internet, in such a way that by the time 10 to 15 minutes go by we cant remember what websites we had been at. It happens all the time, just think about it, how many times have you don't the same exact thing?
But if you don't impress your visitor the first time, the conclusion is that your visitor may not come back to your website ever again. If you end up losing the interest of 500 or more visitors that barely stick around to see your website, they end up leaving and never come back again because you didn't give them a reason to stay long enough to figure out what you have to offer. Now cant you imagine all that potential income you have just lost by not keeping them interested, simply because they decide not to come back. With a little tweaking to your website and tactics you could have converted those visitors into subscribers.
Most internet marketers hound and remind you that creating new and unique content is the key to keeping visitors on your site or wanting to come back to visit, but very often in most cases unique content is not the complete solution you should be looking for. The real, future holding solution really is in converting your visitors into subscribers of your e-mailing list. Once they subscribe, in theory you should have them forever. Even though creating unique content and posting it on blogs, websites, articles site, etc can be a great way of getting traffic and can potentially make your money, adding to your email lists can potentially make you even more money. By creating a landing page and capturing an email address prior to redirecting them to the actual site, creates a potential long term customer. If they like what you have to offer, you can keep emailing them your offers or products you suggest and make a commission from a sale. So potentially every time you email out a product or recommendation you will make a sale.
So what you need to do is grab your visitors attention prior to them deciding to leave so they will fill in their name and email address to sign up to your mailing list. You do this by using your link in your article or content that directs to a landing or squeeze page where they would need to fill in this information first prior to going anywhere else. When you ask for your visitor's name and email address they will enter it in a section to add information prior to clicking enter, your button should say free gift or sign up now or whatever you want your opt in button to say. Their information is saved for you and if in case they forget where they found you or can't find you again, you will have an email ready for them in their inbox to visit your site. Also if they think if all they do is have to add their name and email address into a page to get something in return, they are likely to give that information to you. Maybe offer a free download prior to sending them to the site, this strategy converts well.
Make sure your landing page is compelling and interesting and promises to offer a solution to some problem, but make sure that promise will be met on the inside of your offer. You want to try and build a relationship with your visitors before they even get the first email from you.
