Nearly every marketer who makes a substantial living on the internet has an opt-in list of subscribers, people who have signed up to receive a newsletter, e-mail course, tips, etc. If you aren't building a list, you're making a huge mistake! While it may sound a little intimidating, it's really quite easy - and you'll see that your sales soar, simply because your subscribers come to trust you and the recommendations you make.
Are you ready to grow your email list? Below, we'll discuss strategies for promoting your sign-up offer and how to improve your conversion rate!
Before you get started, it's important that you have a reliable mailing list manager - I love Aweber, because it's easy to use and you can trust that your messages will get delivered! Your mailing list manager will host your email lists and provide you with opt-in forms to put on your blog or website, statistics (how many of your messages are getting opened, who's unsubscribing, etc.). Another good choice is Get Response.
Now, the four things you must consider before you start growing your list, so that you will easily be able to get visitors to your site to sign up:
Color, Copy & Placement! Your opt-in form should:
Attract attention, so location is VERY important. Ideally, your opt-in form should be placed "above the fold," which simply means that visitors can see it without scrolling down on the page. Whether you use a 2 or 3 column layout on your blog, left or right, place it toward the top - and then test to see if one side or the other converts better.
What about color and copy? Does your opt-in form blend with the rest of your site, or does it stand out and easily draw the eye? While you want your site to look coordinated as far as color scheme, be sure that your opt-in form stands out either through bold colors or great copy (or better yet, both)! In your call to action (to get visitors to opt in), describe the benefits they will enjoy, not the features. Keep it short and sweet, but let people know if they sign up, they'll be glad they did.
Create a "squeeze" or opt-in page to use in Bio's & Signatures
If you participate in forums (and you should) or write articles for directory submission or guest posting on blogs, create a squeeze page that entices those who click on your link to subscribe. Sending people to a page that invites them to join your list rather than to your home page increases conversions. Why? Signing up is the only option on the page; there are no other pages the person can go visit, or other distractions.
Do you use Facebook? If you do, be sure to add your subscription form to your page
Facebook is hugely popular today, and a great way to grow your list of subscribers! If you aren't inviting your Facebook fans to subscribe, you're missing out. It isn't hard to do, you can learn how to put your opt-in form on Facebook at Aweber.
Compel your visitors to subscribe.
Over the years, marketers have given away free reports or other downloads in exchange for a visitor's name and e-mail address. Today, that's not enough. While you can give away a free download, let your visitor's know that if they sign up, they will receive your newsletter on a weekly (or monthly, bi-weekly, etc.) basis, or other great offers. The point is, you want to let them know you will be contacting them through emails on a regular basis in order to reduce the number of complaints or unsubscribing.
Building a list is essential to your online success, and there are many things you can do to build your list faster - these are just the tip of the iceberg!

You should give people free gift to subscribe. Like in my signature. People would not give their emails if you did not give them something precious

Your first week of emails should lay the groundwork ... you give them the download link, you introduce yourself, you explain that you'll be emailing them frequently with detailed and relevant content.
Complaints are caused by list builders who don't understand the process.
As Zig Ziglar put it: "You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."
People forget that.
I'm not building a list to make money... I'm building a list to help other people make money.
If I do it well enough - I'll make money too.
But it's all about the goal - if you look at list building as a 'push button get rich quick scheme' - you won't go very far.
This is why a certain amount of passion about your topic really helps...

QUOTE(LaptopLife @ Jul 2 2013, 02:25 PM) I have found that Solo Ads and Ezines are a great way to build you list fast. But learning how to do this kind of marketing means you have to the right training in order for it to be profitable. The best way to learn this skill is to learn from a mentor, someone that has been their and succeeded from doing it!
Be sure to use Solo Ad providers that are reputable in the marketplace. I have found that some of the lower-end providers that offer piles of clicks for less money are usually junk. I have a list of about 10 folks that I used on a regular basis for Solo Ads that ALWAYS overdeliver and I get buyers and action takers every time. Safe-Swaps.com is another good option. They offer a free level of service, but the paid membership gets you access to plenty of other folks that are willing to do AdSwaps and Solo Ads with you. You also get the benefit of a double-blind rating system that will allow you to see how others have rated their experience with the marketer. I also use a system shown in my signature that will grow your list 3x as fast and strong as what you put in it. I hope this helps Marty
