Gold ended the week in the red at 1310.90 after opening the week at 1341.00.
The US shutdown weighed heavily on precious metals. Gold is down some 20%
year to date. The yellow metal tumbled more than 30% in the three quarters to
June as fears mounted of an early end to the U.S. Federal Reserves bond-buying
program. Both precious metals closed the week in the red as a budget deal still
eludes Congress.
