I think what you said here is key.
People are so addicted to Facebook. They have their pages set up, their connections with friends and family set up, they check Facebook daily, etc. It's going to be a challenge for a future site to convince people to leave Facebook and set things up all over again.
But then again, look at what happened to Myspace.
