The value set by the bookmaker is known as 'the spread'. In sports gambling, a bookie might predict that Ireland will beat Argentina in the forthcoming rugby World Cup by 10 points. A punter who bets on Argentina is said to 'take the points' and will win their bet if the South American team's score, plus the 10 point spread, is greater than Ireland's score.

And their winnings increase with every additional point. The patriot who gambles on Ireland is said to 'give the points' and wins if Ireland's score minus 10 points is greater than the Argentinian's total. The principles are very much the same as in financial spread betting, except that in financial spread betting there is no bookie setting the odds or the spread. In effect, the markets dictate this. The market sets the price and the spread betting firm sets the spread around this.

Spread betting is by no means a new phenomenon. It has been an integral part of American sports betting for at least a century. Indeed, it is probably its association with the first betting sports scandal involving baseball almost 90 years ago that gave it something of a disreputable aura for many years on this side of the Atlantic.

In sports spread betting a punter can bet on the difference in the scores of two teams playing against each other and whether this will be less or greater than the value specified by the bookmaker.

The most popular is 'arbs', while other names are overbrokes, surebets, underrounds, all carrying exactly the same meaning. Arbitrage sports bettors are able to get near guaranteed profits by locating the highest odds on each participant and placing their bets with different bookmakers accordingly.

"Arbitrage sports betting" is a system of betting on the outcome of events to net a profit regardless of the results. It involves exploiting the differences in the odds that bookmakers offer on different participants. Arbitrage bettors, sometimes known as 'arbitageurs', place their bets on every selection of a sporting event in a manner that ensures them a profit no matter who the winner is. It is a way of gambling for assured returns and is termed as no risk gambling.

The toughest part is finding at least two different bookies whose prices differ, and the difference is high enough to create an arbitrage opportunity that can provide a profit. To state it simply, you bet on one participant with one bookie and bet on the other with another bookie. The odds offered by each of the bookies should be substantially different and will be the basis to determine the amounts that need to be wagered on each participant to create a money-making arbitrage bet.

For example, in tennis, let's suppose Andre Agassi is playing against Patrick Rafter. Bookmaker A offers 1.91 for Agassi and 2.39 for Rafter. Bookmaker B offers odds 2.2 for Agassi and 1.72 for Rafter. This presents an opportunity to use an arbitrage bet to provide guaranteed profits no matter who wins. Suppose you are prepared to invest $500, what can be a good system? Let's create a theoretical bet:

On Agassi - $267.64 with bookie A

On Rafter - $232.36 with bookie B

Total Investment is $500

Let's suppose now Agassi wins. You bet on $267.64 on Agassi with bookie A

Agassi with odds of 1.91 with bookie A works out as 267.64 x 1.91= 511.19

Remember that your total investment between both bets was $500. Take that away and your net profit works out to be $11.19.

Now let's suppose Rafter wins. You bet $232.36 on Rafter with bookie B.

Rafter with odds of 2.20 with bookie B works out as 232.36 x 2.20= 511.19

Once again, your total investment between both bets was $500. Take that away and your net profit works out to be $11.19 once again. You can't lose! The profit is assured.

Arbitrage sports betting is often portrayed as risk free, however, it is not entirely free of risks. For one, the bookmakers have their odds balanced and if you back both sides with the same bookmaker you are sure to lose. Arbitrage will only work when you place your bets with two different bookmakers who, for their own reasons, offer different odds for the same event. They may also shorten their odds after a certain amount has been received against the bets and this will kill your chance of making a profit. Bookmakers also restrict the amount they accept from one person against a selection and even if you would like to put in a bigger amount against your bet, you may not be able to do so.

I've noticed its been a bit quite in this forum for a while and just wondered how many of you guys are currently arbing full time, and if you'd be happy to answer any questions I might have along the way? I'd be curious to know how much time the average arber spends per day or week arbing? Or what the average day is like for an arber. I originally planned to treat it as a full time 9 to 5 weekday job but I've just found that this isn't the best idea as weekends are the most active time for arbers. Hello guys
If you want to increase your profits doing arbitrage (SUREBETS), read the info below and you will get the solution.

I�ve been a professional sport trader for 5 years, when I started doing sports arbitrage all the thing was easier than nowadays, I mean I used to take arbs style 1X2 o 12 or just Over/Under, the simplest and most common way and used to get and average of 2.3% per arb along the whole year.
As I said nowadays it became more difficult, mainly because Bookies update odds faster and also because there are more people doing this business using softwares and other services, so the market has became more complex, resulting in the fact that today my average arb % using the common arbs style would be just around 1%, which is not bad but it is far from the good % I got years ago, meaning that I would have to work harder to get the same profit.

So for all these things I has developed different mathematical formulas simply running in a excel spreadsheet with the goal to get a higher arb % using a combination of betting types like 1X2, asian handicap, 1X2handicap, back/lay arbs, etc...
So I developed and used this method of combination of betting types since 2007 and my average arb % strongly increased from 1% up to 2.5%!!!, newbies would say that this does not look much but experienced trader certainly knows that it is a lot...

Just to understand the big difference in profits lets put it in Pounds:
I placed arbitrage bets for around GBP 3.000.000 in the whole year 2007 with an average arb of 2.5% (using these formulas) that gave me a year profit of GBP 75.000 (3Millions x 2.5 / 100). While using the traditional style of arb in the previous year and getting just the 1% average, I got a year profit of just GBP 30.000 (in 2006), so I increased my income from 30K to 75k that�s 250% better just using the method of combination of betting styles.

The method uses very sophisticated formulas to combine handicap and asian handicap odds with the traditional 1X2 odds, so doing this you are getting arbs in events that the rest of the people in the business are not seeing, this gives you an strategical advantage over the rest and most important allows you to get arbs with higher %.
This is an example of the match Atletico Madrid v Real Valladolid played on 10/01/2008 for Copa del Rey (Spain):
Traditional odds were
Atletico Madrid 1.64
Draw 4.20
Real Valladolid 7.20
This gives you a regular arb of 1.33%, so investing GBP 1000 I get GBP 13.3

BUT look at what I get using the combination of asian handicap with traditional odds:
Looking at the asian handicap offers for this same event I found this odds
Atletico Madrid (-0.75) 1.98
Real Valladolid (+1) 1.90

Now the combination of these odds allows you to get a much more higher arb %
Atletico Madrid (-0.75) @ 1.98
Real Valladolid (+1) @ 1.90
Draw @ 4.20
Real Valladolid @ 7.20

The formulas already developed and ready to use in a simply spreadsheet will tell you how much to bet on every of this odds to get the same profit no matter the outcome.
This gives you a great arb of 5.02%, so investing GBP 1000 I get GBP 50.2
Finally you can see the power of using this combination instead of using the traditional system.

The spreadsheet I developed includes more than 20 options using diferent combinations like handicap (-1.25), (+1.25), (0), (-0.5), (+0.5), (-0.75), (+0.75), calculation a single odd starting from 3-4 or more odds (useful to combine, excat score odds), also a simple box to use arbs style back/lay including the commision of your Betting Exchange and more.

I have been arbing for a few months, but now find that my betting amounts have been limited to almost nothing by quite a number of bookmakers. I have been following the "rules" of round numbers, etc, but I have nevertheless been limited by an increasing list of bookies. Is there any way of becoming "unlimited"?

I have also been wondering whether the bookies are not picking up that one is coming from an arb alert site when clicking through on referral links from these sites, thereby flashing a red light.

Are there quality bookmakers that are known to never limit accounts?

This arbitrage service provider claims to provide a service 'designed for the professional arber in mind.' Boy do they deliver on that promise. This service is easily the most professional service that I have seen so far. The website interface is smooth, professional, and so well built that it makes you wonder why the rest of the websites on the internet aren't this good. Clearly the interface was written by a very skilled programmer.

Of course we aren't looking for services that are just skillfully crafted, I know that, so lets get to all of the wonderful content/options this skillful website crafter has put into this service.

First of all, there are a lot of arbs. Here is a screenshot I took with most of the filters turned off.

It shows arbs available for all bookmakers, ranging between 0% and 25% for all sports. They clearly seperate each event, and when they report how many arbs they have found each month, each event counts as one arb, not one arb for each bookmaker combination as reported by many other services.
The huge list on the right is summarised on the left with all of the events listed with the highest trade possible being shown. When new ones are found, a very simple audible alert sounds and it pops up on the left hand side list so you can easily find it. which as you can see shows you all of the details about the arb, including the date of the event and all bookmakers who offer odds on the arb, providing you with recourse if you miss one half of the arb or something goes wrong. There is a little button with the picture of a calculator on it, and when you press it, it pops up with pre-rounded figures telling you what you should be on each side. You find out almost instantly how much you should place either side. Brilliant!

You have your display, alert and maximum displayed arb filters. You can filter on date of event, do you dont get stuck with an arb which isn't acted on for a month or anything silly like that. And you can filter odds which are more than 25% over market average so as to reduce the chance of palpable/obvious errors.

Then there is the 'rules' filter. All of their arbs are already filtered to ONLY show matched rules. You have to choose which mismatched rules you will allow through. So in this screenshot, I have chosen to allow tennis matches which are one rule apart be matched together. Just as an example (although I made an error with T1 and T2, I think you want to match T2 and T3, T3 and T4, and T4 and T1). Anyway, their rules filter is remarkable. I am sure there was a lot of work put into setting that sort of database up so that such a system could work.

Of course there is also the bookmaker filter, and the sport filter, so you can be given arbs only from your chosen bookmakers and sports.

This image shows another neat feature of this arb service. Instead of only being able to see all arbs, you can actually look at all of the upcoming events and see the best odds on those events. Choose your sport, and see the best odds on any game at any time. This could be really useful if you fancy yourself as a real sports fanatic. If you know a lot about a tournament or like to watch odds on a particular psort or something, you could use this to predict where arbs come from. I seriously recommend avoiding this for all novices, but I know some people do 'speculate' on arbs.

They are all of the screenshots I took of Arbitrage Pro. Unfortunately I only have a standard 2 day trial, and I have been ridiculusly busy over the past two days, so I didn't get much of a chance to really sit and watch the arbs that it produces (so no real feedback on error rates, duration of arbs etc). Maybe the kind people at arbitrage pro will provide me with another trial in the future Or maybe I will have to subscribe. So many services, so little money!

They also include a help section, within which they have a text explanation of the Hockey rules of every bookmaker they use. It seems that hockey rules tend to be individual from bookmaker to bookmaker, so while ArbitragePro have attempted to catgeorise and filter mismatched rules, it is important for you to understand which rules are being used by your bookmakers exactly so you can be sure.
Once again, they seem to have gone to a lot of trouble to colelct this information. Very impressive.

hey,

obviously the most annoying thing for punters is to get caught and limited by bookies.
i (and i am sure many others also)�d like to know about your tricks to avoid it if there are any?

my suggestions:

1:start a new account with the name of a friend - change the ip-adress! and change the mac-adress! (both is easily done - mac via a pc!)

2:hide sure-bets with 3 or 4-game-combis (you will loose at the end of the day or win little..but their software will not find you so easily) on very sure games: 1.05-1.15 - "small" amounts for these bets

3: do not be greedy and place 50% of your balance on one game, because this is obvious then, that one is a pro! (its 20-30-40$ for you, but a couple of 100s for the bookie)

any suggestions and comment from the community?

I am completely new to arbs - I have never been into betting but for few weeks (for some reason) I started thinking about it and I thought there must be a way to be profitable without actually gambling, but still didn't know about arbitrage... I tried a lot of formulas combinations - nothing worked (as you would suppose) and I decided to quit when I accidentally bumped here and found about arbs - I was very pleased to find out that there was a way after all... I have been reading most of the threads in this section but I still have the silly questions and I would like to reserve this thread for them...

I was looking at some free arb finding websites, that presented arbs with small profits (0.3-0.8%) but when I clicked the button "display comissions" all profits turn red ... especially bet fair, so my silly question number one is 1. Do all bookmakers have comissions for placing bets ?

2. From what I have read up to now I understand that pinnacle is bookmaker number one and it rocks, there was a similar thread about favourite bookmakers that tolerate arbing but I would very much appreciate if anyone tells me a service (free or paid) that finds arbs for us with these bookies.

Howdy ye good old arbers,

it has been a while since I appeared here; the reason is that I gave up arbing and turned into Forex about 6 months ago and I have been doing quite well. Some profit I make on my own but most I make out of signals received by this company: http://www.fxmaster.net/index.html .

Recently I thought maybe I can do both, arbitrage and Forex as most of the time I sit on my hands watching the market. So a month ago I renewed my membership with the alert service I was using before and oh my cosh!! I had to bust a gut just to make the subscription fee as most books have limited me even further. But the worse was still to come. When I requested a withdrawal from Betway they were giving me hassle like asking for a utility bill and IDs, when I already produced all that, so I went to Bookmakers Review to check if anything changed and here is what I found: http://www.bookmakersreview.com/Ratings_History/10483/

As you can see their new rules allows them to withhold arbers' funds and BR is saying they are not the only ones!! Finally I managed to get a payout, maybe because I was arbing only on 3-way handicaps they weren't sure as not many arbers go for those; that's why they last for a much longer time.

However, my dear friends with this lesson I'm well out of arbing. What I struggled to make in a month I can make in few hours with Forex. That's not to say that I don't have loses as my loses are more than my wins but in the long run I come out with a profit. Please note that only 5% of Forex trades are successful so please don't get too excited; my luck may run out one day but I still won't go back to arbing.

I have been working with CJ through the beta testing phase of his Vitegrity software in an attempt to make it completely user and SBP friendly while still helping to speed up the arbitrage placing process.

Ideally, the end product will allow any arbitrage trader, with any arbitrage alert softwre to be able to navigate to and find their bets with ease and place the right amounts on those bets without toggling back and forth between the alert software and surfing windows.

It is almost there with regards to SBP and CJ is looking for a large group of alpha testers to 1. find any last bugs, 2. offer any new improvements which you think would be worth adding and 3. Give his server something to do.

So, if you want to trial a new piece of software to help out, and see if it can help make your arbitrage trading a faster, smoother, easier process, then reply here and say so, and if CJ would be so kind he might post here himself so that you can PM with him and arrange the setup process.

Best Bookmakers For Surebets?

I am not quite a newbie in betting zone, but honestly I don't trust in any soccer game(usually I was betting only on soccer) so I want to know more about sure bets.
I found a few good sites for info but there is one more problem: what do you do when the bookmaker will find out what are you really doing?

I've read a guide on another site about risks involved and main risk would be limiting of account.

I know most arbs can be found at tennis between pinnacle and bwin, or pinnacle and another bookmaker.

Anyway, for me the problems is that bwin closed my account because I won a soccer bet and their site said bet was lost. Livescore.com was showing 3-2 and bwin 2-2. they refund my money around $30 and closed my account "for security reasons".

Last night I was reading Pinnacle terms and I found that they charge $15 for every withdrawal on moneybookers(only first of the most is free). So I could withdraw one on 29-30 of the monst and next after 1 of next month.

Anyway, back to the topic. I would like to know which are best bookmakers for sure bets: no fees, no proof of ID required(maybe optional) and to accept moneybookers(most of them do).

Personally, I play at expekt - no fees, proof of ID required only if you want to withdraw large amounts.

Any other good?

In short, what we have now is a fully automated software that will find arbs and make the bets. I can show daily screen shots, but if you visit the blog, you'll see enough as proof, if not, I have more. But it only takes us 3-5 days to add a book, so we're not too flustered with that.

Needing Help With Sports Arb Question

Hi all i am brand new to this but see the amazing potential in sports arbitrage.

I need to ask all a question.

What i plan to do is to start with $5000 - $10,000 and to get onto one or two sports arb alert services or something similar to begin making the bets.

So far i have only seen conservative estimates about what can be earned and overall disappointing results.

I want to ask you all - why cant someone make a complete living or retirement off this?

My personal plan is to try and make 2.5% per day on my capital and let it sit for the year or so.

Is there any reason why this cannot be done?

Are there enough arb services out there whereby i could place just one bet per day to make 2.5% and just keep doing it daily???

Am i being naive that this could be achieved and if so what am i missing??

i have attempted to place bets a couple of times. eg: arbfinder has advised to bet $ at 1.99 at home and $ at 2.01 for away. when i go to bookie's to place bets i'm then confused at which team is actually playing at home or away and whether i should be backing or laying?

i seem to be wading through the arb process ok with a check list to brouse to avoid mistakes, but i am yet to be able to place a bet where the oportunity arises, difficult to navigate in bookies sites and locate the game some times and then uncertain of how to bet appropriately.

Why Do Bookies Restrict Arbers?

I've been arbing a few months now and am slowly growing my bankroll, all seems well. I'm avoiding the pitfalls of palpable errors, using only well rated bookies on SBR etc etc......checking back to make sure my bets haven't been cancelled right up until the off. All's well.......BUT:

What's this I keep reading about bookies restricting you to virtually useless limits simply because you're Arbing? I mean, at the end of the day they're running a book on an event and they WANT this money to make their book up. What they pay out in winning bets they make up in losing bets because as we all know they sell the event for less than 100%.

What's the beef if you lose with them and win money from their competitors? What do they care? I can understand them limiting you if you are too much money up with them, that's an entirely different matter but surely with the nature of arbing we win and lose in almost equal measure minus our small % profit and as such we're never more than a few quid up with a bookie at any one time.

What's their gripe? More importantly, those of you who have been arbing for some time, just how much of a hindrance is it to you and what, if anything, can you do to mitigate this? Surely if we all get limited then we'll all go bust?

Hello People!

Some of you may or may not be aware that gambling laws are very different from state to state, country to country. In the E.U this creates an uneven playing field for businesses in the industry - something that the E.U was set up precisely to stop. For example, a gambler in the Netherlands (Holland) is unable to make a bet on anything other than Horses or the lottery (and must do this through a State company), whilst someone in the UK may bet on virtually anything legal, from 'next coach to be fired' to 'next goalscorer'.

As such this limits the potential number of bookmakers heavily - and with it the offers and prices available to those of us that choose to take advantage of Arbs or Intro offers.

As such a number of disgruntled E.U gamblers have set up an online peitition, the aim of which is to force the E.U to take a standard position on what may and may not be bet on and through whom, in the E.U. We would very much appreciate it if you took the time to have a look and sign the petition - wherever you are from (we recognise that many American citizens face similar restrictions!).

Arbing is really hard these days. The % of scalp is very small and they often move away before you can complete the bets at both books.

There is a better method that has been working for me quite well that I studies from tom griese.
